How to choose a wall washer for a building facade

A practical checklist for a wall-washer enquiry: installation details, product documentation, light distribution, colour, control and site conditions.

Wall washers lighting a stone facade

1. Describe the installation

Record the facade height, width and surface finish, the proposed mounting positions and the areas to be illuminated. Include elevation drawings or photographs with your enquiry.

2. Check the exact product

Identify the model and request its current datasheet. Confirm dimensions, mounting details, voltage and power for that model. Do not assume that different housings or products with similar photographs share the same specifications.

3. Review the light distribution

Ask for available photometric data or an appropriate mock-up for the proposed installation. Review the intended lighting effect and coverage with the selected product before agreeing the fixture positions and quantities.

4. Confirm colour and control

State the required light colour or colour-changing function and identify the controller. Confirm the product’s supported protocol, connections and power requirements against the relevant documentation.

5. Document the site conditions

Describe exposure to water, dust, temperature and other site conditions. Ask for the protection rating and applicable documentation for the exact model. Have the mounting, wiring and power distribution checked for the actual installation.

6. Prepare the enquiry

Send product references, quantities, drawings, delivery destination and any documentation requirements. Confirm the proposed specification and commercial terms before ordering.
